Time is a Thief Baby Poem

In motherhood, time is a thief! Have you heard the saying, “The days may be long but the months and years are short.”? In regards to motherhood and watching your baby grow, this saying is so true! As a first time mom, I reflected on how I felt about my baby about to turn one year old. I can only describe it as happysad. I know happysad isn’t a word, but it perfectly encompasses the feeling of your baby growing up- happy, excited, proud, but also sad, reminiscent, and teary eyed ( or full blown crying if you’re like me). The following is my original Time is a Thief baby poem.

An original: Time is a Thief Baby Poem:

Time is a Thief: How are you growing up so fast baby?

As I’m planning your first birthday, I find myself looking back at your newborn pictures wondering how we got here.

How is it possible that time is moving so fast?

How did you go from my sleepy, scrunchy newborn to my curious, crawling, bubba?  From smiles while you slept, to big belly laughs?

From scrunched up fists, to chubby hands that clap and play?

It seems like only yesterday that I was bringing you home from the hospital, and a lifetime ago at the same time.

So I’ll continue to stare at you while you sleep to memorize every inch of you, and cuddle and rock you for as long as you’ll let me.

Because time is a thief.

But no matter how old you get, you will always be my baby.

Final thoughts:

As I was planning my baby’s first birthday, I was so excited and also cried so much! I’m here to tell you mama, hold your baby as much as you want because truly, time is a thief! Cuddle them as long as possible and don’t care what other people say. They’re only this little once. Baby’s need our love and affection to thrive so don’t let anyone make you feel bad for holding your baby “too much”. There is simply no such thing.

Tell me your thoughts on your baby growing up. Are you happysad like me? How did you feel at their first birthday or other milestones?
